Turkey Sloppy Joes are a quintessential food from my childhood! They are yummy, quick, and a nice summer meal. A lot of times, the canned or pre-made mixes are full of allergens, especially soy and corn. So I have a simple recipe that we usually serve in lettuce cups or on a tortilla. Buns work too! This recipe is great for a party too, especially that 4th of July gathering! Just double or triple it, if needed. Enjoy!
-1 lb ground turkey
-1/2 tsp salt
-1/2 tsp pepper
-1/4 tsp garlic powder
-1/4 tsp paprika
-1/4 tsp basil
-1/2 tsp bbq smoke seasoning (I use South African smoke seasoning from Trader Joe’s)
-1/4 cup ketchup
-2 tbls bbq sauce
-1 tbl brown sugar
- Place the ground turkey in a dutch oven and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, basil, and smoke seasoning. Brown on medium heat till cooked through, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally and breaking up the meat.
- Add the ketchup, bbq sauce, and brown sugar to the meat and stir.
- Cook on low for 10 minutes. Serve in a lettuce cup, tortilla, bun or your vessel of choice! Enjoy!
