Having food allergies during the holiday season, can add an extra set of challenges. It’s hard to attend a cocktail party having food allergies because either 1. you are not sure if there will be something that you can eat or 2. if you bring something to the party will it be something for everyone to enjoy or just yourself??
What most people don’t need during the busy holiday season is more stress! So, I have a super easy appetizer that you can make! It’s easy to transport for a crowd to enjoy too!!
It’s holiday cocktail hot dogs!! It has 3 ingredients! It can be kept warm and/or transported in a slow cooker! And it’s free of the top 8 allergens!!
This is a family recipe courtesy of my mom! It was a staple at our family Christmas party every year! I have changed it a bit to fit my food allergy needs. It has cocktail hot dogs, grape jelly, & chili sauce. I’ve had to source products that are free from corn & soy to fit my food allergy needs. I’ve found some great products from Trader Joe’s.
Once I was able to substitute allergy friendly products, then it was the same wonderful recipe I’ve always loved!! I always make it during the holidays & love the leftovers too! I hope you enjoy it!!
Holiday Cocktail Hot Dogs
-8 oz grape jelly
-4 oz chili sauce
-12 oz cocktail hot dogs
1. In a large non stick pot or Dutch oven, combine grape jelly and chili sauce. Heat on medium heat till combined and jelly is more of a liquid.
2. Add cocktail hot dogs and heat on low for fifteen minutes, till hot dogs are heated through. Hot dogs will start to look a little puffy. Remove from heat.
3. Serve immediately or place in a slow cooker on warm to serve. Enjoy!
